Our Circle of Friends

Our Circle of Friends programme aims to provide a variety of ways to support and improve the lives of our residents here at Watermoor House. Whether you have an hour every week or could just help out from time to time, there are opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Our ‘Activity Friends’ help with running some of our regularly scheduled activities including Uno, Bingo, Scrabble, Quadrapot etc.

Our Activity Friends have a genuine interest in engaging with our elderly residents and are happy to take part in the activities that they are supporting.  A clear speaking voice is a big advantage!

Activities run every day, both morning and afternoon.  Our programme includes craft, games, quizzes and more spiritual activities, so we can match Activity Friends to a session that suits their interests.

Our ‘Outings Friends’ help by accompanying our staff and residents on outings to local cafes, restaurants and attractions.

Outings take place monthly, often on a Tuesday afternoon but this depends on the destination.  Friends who join us on outings need to be able and willing to engage with our residents, and to provide light assistance to staff in helping with residents’ food.

Our ‘Special Event Friends’ help out with the organising and running of our special events organised throughout the year including Car Boot Sales, Summer Fete, Speciality Shopping Evenings and Fashion Shows.

Our events include bingo nights, bake sales, and the Summer Fete and are a crucial source of fundraising to enable the many activities and trips that we run for our residents.  We are always looking for bakers, stall volunteers, and other helpers to make sure that these events run smoothly.

As a registered charity, we are keen to find new ways to fundraise. As a ‘Fundraising Friend’ of Watermoor House, you have the option of fundraising for us in several ways:

  • Promote our organised fundraising activities such as raffles and tombolas by selling tickets through your own circle of friends, family and co-workers.
  • Donate or volunteer to ask for donations from local businesses for our regular raffles and tombolas
  • Sponsor an activity either personally or through your business. For example, you could pay for the refreshments on a special event like our Pimm’s and Pamper Evening.
  • Organise your own activity or event with proceeds going to Watermoor House. For example, you could organise a cake sale at your place of work.

All Friends of Watermoor House receive a personalised name badge, and recognition in our regular newsletters, on our Facebook page and website and occasionally in the local press.   We provide complimentary refreshments and parking (first come basis) at the home for your visits.
